(At the Wheel), a monthly, popular-scientific sports magazine of the central committee of the All-Union Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Air Force, and Navy of the USSR; it is published in Moscow. The magazine was founded in 1928 as a social, literary, and popular-scientific illustrated magazine. It is intended for drivers and automobile enthusiasts, sportsmen (motorcyclists and motorists), teachers of automotive subjects, and coaches. It publishes materials about new domestic and foreign automobiles and motorcycles and about problems of safety and traffic control. Much attention is devoted to defense and patriotic themes. It systematically informs readers of intra-Union and international automobile and motorcycle competitions. Circulation in 1972, 2.1 million copies.
