Zavalishin, Dmitrii Aleksandrovich

Born Mar. 31 (Apr. 13), 1900, in St. Petersburg; died Feb. 29, 1968, in Leningrad. Soviet scientist in the area of electrical engineering; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960).

Zavalishin graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1925 and worked there from 1925 to 1939, after 1935 as a professor. From 1939 to 1941 he was in charge of the sub-department for electrical machinery at the S. M. Budennyi Military Electrotechnical Academy. From 1941 to 1946 he was a professor in the subdepartment of specialized electrical engineering at the Engineering-Technical College of the Naval Forces. From 1946 to 1959, Zavalishin was in charge of the subdepartment for electrical machinery at the Leningrad Institute for Aviation Instrument-Making. After 1959 he was the head of the laboratory of scientific fundamentals of auto-mated electric drives at the Institute of Electromechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Zavalishin’s main contributions deal with electrical machinery, electron-ion converters, and semiconductor converters. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
