[¦zē·mən i‚fekt ə¦täm·ik əp¦sȯrp·shən spek′träm·ə·trē] (spectroscopy) A type of atomic absorption spectrometry in which either the light source or the sample is placed in a magnetic field, splitting the spectral lines under observation into polarized components, and a rotating polarizer is placed between the source and the sample, enabling the absorption caused by the element under analysis to be separated from background absorption.
