Zeinalov, Dzhangir Meshedi Rza Ogly

 

Born 1865 in Baku; died there Nov. 4, 1918. Azerbaijani actor.

Zeinalov began his stage career in 1885 during the formation of a national theatrical tradition. He usually played comic and character roles, at times infusing them with a dramatic quality. His art was characterized by its psychological truth, its artistic simplicity, the sincerity of its portrayal of human emotions, and its special lightness and spontaneity. Zeinalov played the title roles inGadji Kara, The Vizier of the Lenkoran1 Khanate, andMolla Ibragim Khalil by Akhundov; Gadji Samed in The Unfortunate Youth by Akhverdov; the Town Governor in The Inspector-General by Gogol; and Count Moor in The Robbers by Schiller. One of the founders of the national theater, he trained many prominent Azerbaijani actors, including G. Arablinskii, M. A. Aliev, and S. Rukhulla.
