Zelenograd

a city in Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Skhodnia River, on the Leningrad road, 4 km from the Kriukovo railroad station and 37 km to the northwest of Moscow. Population, 76,000 (1971). A reinforced-concrete structural member plant and a fruit and vegetable combine are located here, as well as an institute of electronics and a branch of a construction technicum.

The construction of Zelenograd, one of the satellite cities of Moscow, began in 1960 (it became a city in 1963). A number of original architectural complexes and individual buildings were constructed here, including the Fleita Apartment House (1969; F. A. Novikov and I. A. Pokrovskii, architects) and the Elektron Movie Theater (1966; lu. P. Gnedovskii, architect). Factory buildings are constructed so that they organically blend in with the general plan of the city. In 1971 a new general plan for the city was adopted (I. A. Pokrovskii, chief architect).
