Zelenogradsk
(until 1947, Cranz), a city, the administrative center of Zelenogradsk Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the shore of the Baltic Sea, with a railroad station 30 km north of Kaliningrad.
There is a brush factory and butter plant in the city. On the shore is a sea resort with mud baths. The summer is moderately mild (the average temperature in July is 17°C), as is the winter (average January temperature - 3°C). Annual precipitation is about 710 mm. The sea climate, bathfng (from early June until mid-September), sandy beaches, peat mud baths, and whirlpool, pine-needle, and radon baths are used in the cures at the resort. Patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system, nervous system, or organs of movement and support and those suffering from gynecological diseases or the aftermath of poliomyelitis and tuberculosis are treated. Sanatoriums, rest homes, mud treatment centers, and a bath building are available. Adjacent to the resort is a large park with lush vegetation, which gradually turns into a pine forest. The city was founded in 1252.
