Zhadanovskii, Boris Petrovich

Born Apr. 28 (May 10), 1885, in Kharkov Province; died Apr. 27, 1918. Partici-pant in the Revolution of 1905–07 in Russia. Member of the Communist Party from November 1917.

Zhadanovskii was a graduate of the Cadet Corps in Poltava and the Engineers’ Academy in St. Petersburg. In July 1905 in Kiev, he made contact with the military organization of the RSDLP and led an armed revolt of sappers on November 18, 1905. In September 1906 he was sentenced to be shot, but the sentence was commuted to hard labor for life. He was freed by the February Revolution and in 1917 served as vice-chairman of the Yalta Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies and as editor of the Yalta newspaper Izvestiia. In April 1918, Zhadanovskii organized a unit to combat German and Petliura troops; he was killed in battle.
