Zherdevka

a city (village until 1954), the administrative center of Zherdevka Raion in southern Tambov Oblast, RSFSR. Zherdevka is situated on the Savala River (in the basin of the Don) and has a railroad station on the Griazi-Povorino line. Population, 17,000 (1970). A sugar refinery, vegetable-oil extraction plant, drying and canning plant, creamery, mechanical plant, brick works, poultry-raising combine, and grain elevator are located here. There is also a museum of local lore.
