Zhirnovsk

(the village of Zhirnoe until 1954; the settlement of Zhirnovskii until 1958), a city and center of Zhirnovsk Raion, Volgograd Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the left bank of the Medveditsa River (Don Basin), 27 km north of the Medveditsa railroad station on the Kamyshin-Balashov line. It is a center of oil and gas production and the site of an asphalt-concrete plant and an oil technicum.
