an urban-type settlement in Galich Raion, Ivano-Frankovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, located at the influx of the Bystritsa River into the Dnestr. There is a rail-road station at EzupoF on the Ivano-Frankovsk-L’vov line. Zhovten’ has local industrial enterprises.

(October), a Ukrainian monthly literary and social-political journal, organ of the Union of Writers of the Ukraine. It is published in L’vov. The journal was founded in 1939, after the western Ukrainian lands were reunited with the Soviet Ukraine. It appeared in 1940–41 under the name Literatura i mystetstvo (Literature and Art) and was revived in 1945 under the nameRadians’ kyi L’viv (Soviet L’vov). In February 1951 the journal was renamed Zhovten’. The journal brings together western Ukrainian Soviet writers and gives a picture of the life of the Ukrainian people in their liberated land. The journal has published the work of la. Galan, S. Tudor, A. Gavriliuk, and P. Kozlaniuk. Circulation, 19,000 copies (1972).
