Zhukov, Mikhail Fedorovich

 

Born Aug. 24 (Sept. 6), 1917, in thestanitsa (large cossack village) of Verkhov’e, Orel Oblast. Soviet scientist in aerodynamics and low-temperature plasma. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968); member of the CPSU since 1953. Graduated from the department of mathematics and mechanics of Moscow State University in 1941. From 1941 to 1946 he worked at the N. E. Zhukovskii Central Aerodynamic and Hydrodynamic Institute and from 1946 to 1959 at the Main Institute of Aviation Engine Construction. In 1959 he became deputy director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; in 1970, deputy director of the Institute of Thermal Physics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, as well as medals.
