Ianushkevichius, Zigmas Ippolitovich

 

Born Oct. 3 (16), 1911, in Tbilisi. Soviet doctor of internal medicine. Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1967) and of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (1968). Member of the CPSU from 1951.

Ianushkevichius graduated from the medical school of the University of Kaunas in 1935. He became director (rector) of the Kaunas Medical Institute and head of the institute’s department of differential diagnosis and treatment in 1953. Ianushkevichius’ principal works deal with the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, medical cybernetics, and the organization of research. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1969 for developing new methods of diagnosing and treating myocardial infarction.

Ianushkevichius was a deputy to the fourth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin and four other orders.
