Zinka Milanov

(maiden name, Kunc). Born May 17, 1906, in Zagreb. Yugoslav dramatic and lyric soprano.

Milanov studied singing at the Academy of Music in Zagreb. She completed her training in Prague and made her debut in 1927 in Ljubljana. Milanov was a soloist at the Opera House in Zagreb from 1928 to 1935 and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York from 1937. She sang at various festivals and at opera houses in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain. She gained fame for her performance of leading roles in operas by G. Verdi, V. Bellini, G. Puccini, and other Italian composers, as well as in roles of the Wagnerian repertoire. She also performed in concert, singing masses and oratorios.
