Zirconium Ferrosilicon

Zirconium Ferrosilicon

a ferroalloy containing 35–50 percent Zr, 2–9 percent Al, and 30–45 percent Si; the remainder is Fe and impurities. The alloy is smelted from zirconium concentrate in a steel-smelting arc furnace by the silicothermic or aluminothermic process; zirconium ferrosilicon obtained by the latter method has a higher Zr content. Zirconium ferrosilicon is used in the smelting of low-alloy steel.
