Zlota Culture

(named after the village Złota, near the city of Sandomierz), an archaeological culture of the Late Neolithic to the beginning of the Bronze Age (2200–1700 B.C.). The culture had corded ware pottery. It was wide-spread in the loess regions of Poland—the region of the great bend of the Vistula River. The Złota culture is represented by vast burials (generally without any tumuli) containing skeletons in flexed positions and sometimes in catacombs. The ritual burials of cows, pigs, and horses are of interest. The pottery represents mixed forms and styles of different groups of the corded ware culture. The tribes of the Złota culture were settled farmers and stock breeders.
