(zông'go͝oldäk`), city (1990 pop. 120,300), capital of Zonguldak prov., N Turkey, a port on the Black Sea. It is the center of the major coal-producing region of Turkey.

a city in northern Turkey, on the Black Sea; administrative center of the Zonguldak Vilayet (province). Population, 73,000 (1970). Zonguldak is linked by railway with Ankara. It is one of Turkey’s main coal mining centers and has food, chemical, and wood-products industries. Zonguldak is the principal port for the export of coal. Manganese ore is mined in the area.
