Zorabian, Levon Bogdanovich

 

Born Nov. 1 (13), 1892, in Batumi; died Aug. 29, 1969, in Leninakan. Soviet Armenian actor. People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1947).

In 1910, Zorabian began his stage career at the Russian Drama Theater in Batumi. After 1913 he worked in Armenian theatrical troupes. From 1930 to 1960 he was an actor at the A. Mravian Armenian Theater in Leninakan. One of the most prominent masters of the Armenian theater, Zorabian established realism as a major trend in the national dramatic arts. He created strikingly distinctive characters. His roles included Abisogom-aga in Paronian’s Esteemed Beggars, Raspliuev in Sukhovo-Kobylin’s KrechinskWs Wedding, and Toby Belch in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Zorabian was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
