Zorkul


Zorkul’

 

a lake in the Pamir Mountains, on the border of the Tadzhik SSR and Afghanistan. Located at an elevation of 4,126 m, the lake is 20 km long and approximately 3.5 km wide and has an area of 38.9 sq km. Zorkul’ is a freshwater lake, rich in fish and waterfowl. A frontier river, the Pamir, one of the sources of the Piandzh River, flows out of the lake.
