Zucchi, Antonio
(äntô`nyō so͞ok`kē), 1726–95, Venetian painter. Robert and James Adam made Zucchi's acquaintance in Venice, traveled with him in Italy, and persuaded him (c.1766) to come to England to collaborate in their architectural works. Zucchi executed many wall and ceiling decorations for their interiors, notably at Syon House. He was elected associate of the Royal Academy in 1770. In 1781 he married the Swiss painter Angelica KauffmannKauffmann, Angelica, 1741–1807, Swiss neoclassical painter and graphic artist. From her youth she was known for her artistic, musical, and linguistic abilities. She went to England, where she enjoyed success as a fashionable portrait painter and decorator.
