Her poems “Khul’kar” (1947) and “I Sing the Dawn” (1950; Russian translation, 1951) portray postwar life and re-create the image of Soviet women workers. Many of Zul’fiia’s poems, including the collection Those Close to My Heart ( 1958) and ‘‘ Heart on a Journey’’ (1966), are devoted to the struggle for peace and to the friendship of peoples. Zul’fiia is a lyric poet who sings of nature (“Gift of the Valley,” 1966; “My Spring,” 1967; and “The Waterfall,” 1969). She is the author of the libretto for the opera Zainab and Aman, which is based on a narrative poem by Kh. Alimdzhan.
