Zworykin, Vladimir Zworykin, Vladimir (Kosma)(1889–1982) physicist, inventor; born in Murom, Russia. Trained in physics in Russia and France, he emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1919 and worked for the Westinghouse Corp. until 1929. In that year he demonstrated a television receiver with a cathode ray tube of his invention that contained the main features of modern picture tubes. Joining RCA (1929–54), he continued to perfect his invention. He later contributed to the development of the electron microscope. |
