Ádam Mányoki
Mányoki, Ádam
Born 1673 in Szokolya, Hungary; died Aug. 6, 1757, in Dresden. Hungarian painter.
Mányoki, who studied in Hamburg, worked in the courts of Ferenc II Rakoczy (1707-11) and other European monarchs. In his works he used elements from baroque formal portraiture, laying the foundations of a national school of portrait painting. His paintings include Self-portrait (c. 1710-20, Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest), Portrait of Pál Ráday (1720’s, Raday Library; Budapest), and Portrait of Ferenc II Rakoczy (1707-11, Hungarian National Gallery).
