Ångström, Anders Knutson
Born Feb. 28, 1888. Swedish geophysicist; member of the Stockholm Academy of Sciences (1948). Son of K. J. Ångström.
Ångström became director of the Swedish weather bureau in 1940 and director of the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute in Stockholm in 1949. He produced an empirical formula for determining the intensity of radiation of the earth, constructed a pyranometer to measure radiation, and conducted research on variations in the solar constant and in solar activity.
