Ék, Sándor

(pseudonym, Alex Keil). Born Aug. 27, 1902, in the village of Szentmihályfalva. Hungarian painter and graphic artist.

Ék studied at the Free Art School in Budapest at the time of the Hungarian Soviet Republic (1919). After the fall of Soviet power in Hungary he emigrated to Germany and, in 1933, to the USSR. He produced revolutionary posters and caricatures of striking design, notably the poster Ten Years Without Lenin (1934). After returning to Hungary in 1945 he worked as a graphic artist, producing the series of lithographs Memento (1958), and as a painter.

Ék, an unyielding supporter of realist art, was awarded the Kossuth Prize in 1951.
