Ódádahraun

Ódádahraun

a lava field in Iceland, north of the Vatnajökull glacier. Lying at an elevation of 800–1,000 m, the lava field covers an area of about 4,000 sq km. The area is dotted with oddly shaped masses of hardened basalt lava, above which the craters of active and inactive volcanoes rise 500–700 m. The most famous volcano is Askja, rising to 1,510 m; its caldera of about 50 sq km is occupied by Lake Öskjuvatn. Ódádahraun is almost completely devoid of vegetation and surface water.
