hills in the western part of Lithuanian SSR, in the basins of the Venta, Jura, Minija, and Dubysa rivers. Average altitude, 120–150 m; maximum altitude, 234 m (Mount Medvegalis). The hills are made up chiefly of clay, sand, and marls of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, with Anthropogenic clay and moraine deposits and other deposits from ancient lakes and glacier flows on the surface. The terrain is of a smooth, hilly moraine type. There are many lakes (including Pleteljai and Lukstas). Coniferous and mixed forests, meadows, pastures, and plowlands cover the hills.
