basophil leucocyte

a type of white blood cell (of the GRANULOCYTE group) which takes up the stain of a basic dye. Basophils form a tiny proportion of the adult human leucocytes (about 1%), being produced in the bone marrow and have a function which is probably associated with the IMMUNE RESPONSE e.g. in chickenpox infection.
