Antisubmarine Ships

Antisubmarine Ships

a class of surface warships designed to fight submarines.

Antisubmarine ships appeared in World War I but did not become widely used. During World War II the United States and Great Britain specially designed and built escort destroyers, frigates, corvettes, and launches outfitted with antisubmarine weapons and sonar equipment to detect submarines. In the 1960’s guided antisubmarine missiles were mounted on antisubmarine ships. The present-day navies of the USSR, USA, Great Britain, and other countries use antisubmarine cruisers, frigates, patrol boats, and cutters as antisubmarine ships.
