In international commerce, a system that places tariffs on imports that are unusually low-priced. Under an antidumping/countervailing duty system, the importing country places an antidumping duty on products sent from countries where the good is much less expensive than domestically produced goods of the same type. The system also imposes a countervailing duty on products subsidized by the government of the exporting country. This system is used in Australia.
