Antifascist Committee of Soviet Women

a public organization established Sept. 7, 1941, in Moscow at the First All-Union Meeting of Soviet Women for the unification of the efforts of the women of the USSR and foreign countries in the common struggle against the German fascist aggressors. After the end of World War II in 1945, the committee joined the International Initiating Committee for the convocation of an international women’s congress. On Dec. 1, 1945, in Paris the congress created the International Democratic Federation of Women. The committee played a prominent role in the development of friendly ties with women’s organizations in many countries. In 1956 it was renamed the Committee of Soviet Women.
