Betab, Abdulkhak Sufi

 

Born 1888 in Kabul. Afghan poet.

Betab writes in the Farsi Kabuli language. He was in Islamic studies and he also studied Persian and Arabic classical authors. Since 1918 he has worked in the educational system; he is a professor of literature at the University of Kabul. In his poetry Betab is a follower of the so-called Indian school of classical Persian Tadzhik poetry; however, he has achieved a significant simplicity of language. In 1952, Betab was awarded the honorary title of khan of poets.
