Babinov Road

a road across the Urals from European Russia to Siberia, from Sol’ Kamskaia to Verkhotur’e. In 1598 it replaced the Cherdyn road.

The Babinov road went overland, across the Usolka, Surmag, Iaiva, and Kos’va rivers, through the settlement of Rostes and the village of Pavdinskaia, and across the Mostovaia and Tura rivers. The road was proposed in 1597 by the Sol’vychegodsk merchant Artemii Babinov (hence the name). With the opening of the Siberia-Moscow highway to Ekaterinburg (now Sverdlovsk) in 1763, the Babinov road lost its importance.
