Audio-enhanced, computer-assisted self-interviewing. A method used to improve the quality of survey data obtained by questionnaires, intended to overcome respondents’ limited literacy and incentives to misstate the answers to questions that may be regarded as sensitive.Method
The respondent listens to spoken questions digitally recorded and stored in a laptop and answers the questions displayed on the screen. In one study, the Audio-CASI technique resulted in a 3-fold increase in reporting of risk behaviours, including male-to-male sex, IV drug use and sexual contact with IV drug users. A subsequent study found this increase limited to the more educated and computer-literate interviewees.
