Nersesian, Babken Pogosovich

 

Born July 5 (18), 1917, in Tbilisi. Soviet Armenian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

In 1933, Nersesian began his acting career at the Armenian Young People’s Theater in Tbilisi. From 1944 to 1955 he worked in the company of the Armenian Dramatic Theater in Tbilisi, and beginning in 1956 at the G. Sundukian Armenian Academic Theater in Yerevan. His character portrayals are sharp and expressive, and his acting is marked by great emotion and graphic clarity. Among his best roles are the title role in Sundukian’s Pepo, Mikael in Chaos after Shirvanzade, Bersenev in Lavrenev’s The Break, Ara in Zarian’s Ara the Beautiful, Gevork in Borian’s Under One Roof, and Muromskii in Sukhovo-Kobylin’s The Case. Nersesian created the role of V. I. Lenin in the play The Chairman of the Republic by Dar’ian. In 1957 he began acting in films. He also gives dramatic readings.

Nersesian has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor as well as various medals.
