Barguzin

a river in the Buriat ASSR. Length 480 km; basin area 21,100 sq km. The river rises on the slopes of the Ikatskii Range, flows through the Barguzin Basin, and empties into Barguzin Bay in Lake Baikal. Below the village of Barguzin, the river cuts through a spur of the Barguzin Range, forming rapids. The main tributaries are the Garga, Argada, and Ina on the left and the Uliun on the right. The river is mainly rain-fed. The annual average discharge at the mouth is 130 cu m per sec. Navigation is possible as far as the confluence of the Garga River (249 km), and there is regular service as far as Mogoito landing (226 km). The river’s water is used for irrigation.
