Acidophobic Organisms

Acidophobic Organisms

organisms which do not tolerate high acidity and develop only in alkaline mediums; the same as basophile organisms. Acidophobic organisms include certain bacteria, for example, urobacteria, which break down urea; urobacteria grow well in an alkaline medium with a pH of 8–9 and do not develop at all in a medium with a pH below 6. Acidophobic organisms also include higher plants such as beets, alfalfa, beans, and others.
