Beliaev, Aleksandr Petrovich

 

Born 1803; died 1887, in Moscow. Decembrist (but formally not a member of the secret society of the Decembrists); warrant officer on a guard crew.

Beliaev actively participated in the preparation of the uprising in St. Petersburg and on Dec. 14, 1825 he was on Senate Square with a battalion. He was sentenced to 12 years of hard labor (in Chita and the Petrovskii plant, 1827–32). After his amnesty in 1856, he lived in Moscow; he was hostile toward the revolutionary movement. He described his views in A Decembrist’s Memoirs on His Life and Experience, 1805–50 (1882).
