Beliaev, Anatolii Ivanovich

 

Born Oct. 5 (18), 1906, in Moscow; died June 4, 1967, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of nonferrous and semiconductor metallurgy. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960).

Beliaev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Nonferrous Metals and Gold (1931) and worked on the construction of the Dnieper Aluminum Plant. From 1938 he was engaged in teaching. Beliaev’s scientific activities were chiefly in the field of aluminum production, but they also included the problems of surface phenomena in molten mediums and research on the physicochemical properties of various salt systems and of electrolytes used to obtain nonferrous metals. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Badge of Honor, and medals.
