Denbigh Flint Complex

Denbigh Flint Complex

a pre-Eskimo archaeological culture of North America. It was discovered in 1948 in the lower horizon of the Eskimo settlement Iyatayet in Alaska on Cape Denbigh in Norton Sound; the lower horizon was separated by a sterile band. Cultures closely resembling the Denbigh culture have also been discovered on capes in Kotzebue Sound, on the arctic coast of Alaska, in Canada, and in northeastern Greenland. Characteristic of the Denbigh complex are small flaked blades; small, chipped side and end blades; burins; scrapers; knives; and points of ancient American types. The complex dates from before 2500 B.C.
