Charpy test

[′shär·pē ‚test] (metallurgy) An impact test to determine the ductility of a metal; a freely swinging pendulum is allowed to strike and break a notched specimen that has been laid loosely on a support; the work done by the pendulum is obtained by comparing the position of the pendulum before release with the position to which the pendulum swings after breaking the specimen.

Charpy test

A single-blow impact test utilizing a falling pendulum which breaks a specimen, usually notched, supported at both ends.
