Calcium Bromide

calcium bromide

[′kal·sē·əm ′brō‚mīd] (inorganic chemistry) CaBr2 A deliquescent salt in the form of colorless hexagonal crystals that are soluble in water and absolute alcohol.

Calcium Bromide

CaBr2, a salt; colorless crystals. Density, 3.35 g per cm3; melting point, 760°C.

Calcium bromide is readily soluble in water (594 g per 100 g H2O at 0°C). The crystalline hydrate, CaBr2⋅6H2O, melts at 38.2 °C. Calcium bromide is obtained by the interaction of bromine and milk of lime in the presence of ammonia. It is used in the preparation of sensitized photographic materials.
