Cordillera de Carabaya

 

a mountain range in south-eastern Peru, situated between the upper reaches of the Madre de Dios and Paucartambo-Ramis river basins; a continuation of the Cordillera Central of Peru. It is about 300 km long, and its highest peak is Mount Ausangate (6,384 m). The range is deeply carved by canyons, has contemporary glaciation (the snow line begins at about 5,000 m), and is covered with mountain tropical rain forests.
