bismuth encephalopathy

A subacute neurologic condition linked to ingestion of bismuth subgallate.
 
Clinical findings
Fluctuating confusion, somnolence, loss of concentration, tremor, ± hallucinations and delusions. With continued ingestion, encephalopathic symptoms worsen and are accompanied by diffuse myoclonic jerks, seizures, ataxia and inability to walk or stand.
 
Management
Discontinuation use of bismuth agents.
