Dranmor, Ferdinand

(pseudonym of Ludwig Ferdinand Schmid). Born July 22, 1823, in Berne; died there Mar. 17, 1888. Swiss poet writing in German.

Dranmor lived in Brazil and was a precursor of neoromanticism in Swiss literature. His collections Book of Travels (1860) and Poetic Fragments (1860) included lyrical verses, translations, and longer poems. In the epic work in verse Emperor Maximillian (1868), Dranmor romanticizes the medieval German emperor. In Waltz of Demons (1868) he glorifies asceticism; in Requiem (1869) and Autumn Leaves (1879) the poet romanticizes death.
