algid malaria

a form of falciparum malaria chiefly involving the gut and other abdominal viscera; gastric algid malaria is characterized by persistent vomiting; dysenteric algid malaria is characterized by bloody diarrheic stools in which enormous numbers of infected red blood cells are found.

algid malaria

A dangerous form in which the parasites in the blood cause a condition like bacterial SHOCK, with low blood pressure and cold skin. Urgent treatment to combat shock with transfusions and DOPAMINE, and energetic attack on the infecting malarial parasites, are necessary.
