Established: 1985.
Location:40 miles southwest of Bakersfield, California, near Maricopa.
Facilities:Auto tour route.
Special Features:Refuge is one of the centers for research aimed at assisting the recovery of the California condor.
Habitats: 14,094 acres consisting primarily of bushlands and grasslands with a small area of juniper and scrub oak.
Access: The refuge is closed to visitors except from a county road that bisects the refuge.
Wild life: Traditional feeding and roosting habitat for the California condor. Also provides habitat for the San Joaquin kit fox, golden eagle, and the endangered blunt-nosed leopard lizard
