corneal sensitivity sensitivity, corneal The capability of the cornea to respond to stimulation. Corneal sensitivity to touch is assessed by an aesthesiometer that measures the corneal touch threshold (CTT), which is the reciprocal of corneal sensitivity. Sensitivity varies across the cornea, with the centre being the most sensitive. Diseases and rigid contact lens wear greatly reduce the sensitivity of the cornea. See aesthesiometer; corneal touch threshold; corneal hyperaesthesia. |
