Etoshapan

Etoshapan

a salt flat in northern Namibia, in southern Africa. Etoshapan lies in a vast closed basin at an elevation of 1,065 m. It has an area of approximately 4,000 sq km. It is covered with water in the rainy season and with a salt crust in the dry months. Etoshapan was once a lake fed by the Cunene River. The lake turned into a salt flat after the Cunene was captured by a river that empties into the Atlantic Ocean and the climate became drier. Etoshapan is part of Etosha National Park.
