Location:In northern Louisiana, 4 miles north of Monroe.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, boardwalk trail (é), nature trails, boat launches, canoe trail, environmental education center.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting (with restrictions), wildlife watching, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge property is operated by the Fish and Wildlife Service under a free 99-year lease with the City of Monroe.
Habitats: 4,200 acres of wetlands consisting of a shallow lake, riparian areas, and farm fields.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers, as well as wading birds, squirrel, rabbit, deer, alligator, snakes, turtles.
