a type of bibliography whose purpose is to assist in scientific work, production, or other areas of practical activity. Current reference materials, such as journals of abstracts, express information services, and bibliographic annuals, weeklies, and bulletins, are used, as are retrospective guides and indexes on particular subjects or in particular branches of science.
